Mileage for Amazon Flex drivers

An Amazon Flex mileage tracker for blocks, routes and returns

Amazon Flex shows the route and estimated mileage of an offer before you accept it, but its public FAQ describes no yearly mileage summary, and Amazon does not reimburse mileage, parking or tolls — as an independent contractor, you pay your own expenses. A Flex block also includes the drive back to the station with undelivered packages, and the drive to the station at the start. The only complete record of those miles is one you keep yourself while the block is running.

Blocks and the return to station

Work comes in scheduled blocks, and undelivered packages must be returned to the location in the app at the end of the block or by 10 AM the next day — a drive back that is part of the job.

Illustrative block, not Amazon data: 14 miles to the station, 47 on the route, 12 back to the station with two undelivered packages — none on a yearly Amazon record. Rate: IRS standard mileage rate for the period the miles were driven in.

An estimate on the offer is not a record of the block

The estimated mileage on a Flex offer is a planning number: it helps you decide whether a block is worth taking. It is not what you drove. Routes change, stops are added or skipped, and the drive to the station at the start and back to it at the end are part of the day but not part of the route. The Flex FAQ describes no yearly summary that adds any of this up, and Amazon does not pay for the miles, so the record — and the deduction question — are both yours. The IRS asks for a record kept at or near the time of each drive (Publication 463).

Why the return-to-station drive matters

Flex is one of the few gig platforms where the job can end with driving back where you started: undelivered packages go back to the station at the end of the block, or by 10 AM the next day. That drive is easy to forget because nothing is being delivered. It is still driving you do because of the work. Whether a particular mile is deductible depends on your situation, and a tax professional can say — but it can only be considered if it was written down.

How CatchMile records a Flex block

CatchMile detects drives in the background, so the station run, the route and the return are recorded without you starting anything — it has no connection to Amazon and never sees your packages. Each drive is saved with date, start and end address and distance, and you swipe it Business, Personal or Commute. Dollars are shown per drive at the IRS rate for that date: 72.5¢ a mile January–June 2026, 76¢ July–December. If the phone stops the tracker during a long block, CatchMile shows that in the app rather than leaving the block half-recorded.

Amazon Flex mileage — questions drivers ask

Does Amazon Flex track my mileage?

Only as an estimate on each offer, shown before you accept it. The Amazon Flex FAQ describes no yearly mileage summary you can download.

Does Amazon Flex reimburse mileage?

No. The Flex FAQ says that as an independent contractor you are responsible for your own expenses — mileage, parking and tolls included.

Do I need to drive undelivered packages back?

Yes. The FAQ says to return undelivered packages to the location in the app at the end of the block, or by 10 AM the next day. That drive is part of the work.

Is Stride a mileage tracker for Flex drivers?

Amazon Flex Rewards gives access to Stride's discounts and tools for insurance and taxes. The Flex page itself does not call it a mileage tracker.

Which 1099 do Amazon Flex drivers get?

Secondary sources describe a 1099-NEC by January 31, with a $2,000 threshold from tax year 2026 ($600 before). We could not confirm it on an Amazon Flex page, and no mileage is on it either way.
