Mileage for Grubhub drivers

A Grubhub mileage tracker — Grubhub has no mileage to give you

Grubhub keeps no mileage record for drivers. Its own help article, written for drivers asking for last year's total, says the 1099 team and Driver Support have no access to any mileage information. The 1099-NEC shows payments only, and Grubhub points drivers to QuickBooks as its partner for tracking mileage. So every Grubhub mile — to the zone before a block, between restaurants and customers, and home — exists only in the log you keep as you drive.

What Grubhub's record shows — and what it leaves out

Does Grubhub give you a mileage figure?

Tax form and where it arrives

1099-NEC for $600+ paid Jan 1–Dec 31, from February in the Grubhub for Drivers app and Driver Portal, or mailed early February. Amounts follow payment date, not delivery date. No mileage on it.

Scheduled blocks

Drivers claim time blocks in advance; repeatedly dropping blocks within 72 hours can restrict scheduling access.

California (Prop 22)

$0.37 per mile for miles driven during active delivery time — a pay rule, not a record Grubhub hands you.

What the gap is worth

One shift, two numbers

What you drove for work
49 mi
On Grubhub's record
none
Only in your own log
49 mi

Illustrative block, not Grubhub data: 49 miles between home, restaurants and customers — none of it on any Grubhub document. Rate: IRS standard mileage rate for the period the miles were driven in.

When the platform says it has nothing

Some platforms hand you a partial figure; Grubhub hands you none, and says so. Drivers who reach the end of the year without a log and ask Grubhub for a total get the same answer: the 1099 team and Driver Support have no access to mileage information. Even California's Prop 22 per-mile pay, counted during active delivery time, is a payment rule and not a statement of your miles. The 1099-NEC also follows payment dates rather than delivery dates, so it cannot even be used to reconstruct which days you worked.

Blocks shape how Grubhub miles add up

Grubhub work is organised around scheduled blocks claimed in advance. That means driving to your zone before the block starts, waiting between orders inside it, and driving home after it ends — stretches with no order attached that a platform-side count would not see even if Grubhub kept one. Which of these miles are deductible for you is a question for a tax professional. What the IRS asks is that the record be made at or near the time of each drive (Publication 463), which a year-end memory cannot be.

How CatchMile keeps a Grubhub log

CatchMile records drives in the background, so it does not need you to start and stop it around each block — and it has no connection to Grubhub, so it records every drive the same way. Each drive gets a date, start and end address and distance, and you swipe it Business, Personal or Commute. Dollars are shown per drive at the IRS rate for that date — 72.5¢ a mile January–June 2026, 76¢ July–December. If tracking stops during a block, CatchMile shows it in the app — rather than leaving you to discover the hole when you go looking for a total Grubhub cannot give you.

Set it up once. Every Grubhub mile logs itself — including the ones Grubhub doesn't count.

Grubhub mileage — questions drivers ask

Can Grubhub tell me how many miles I drove last year?

No. Grubhub's help article on exactly this question says the 1099 team and Driver Support have no access to any mileage information.

Does the Grubhub 1099-NEC show mileage?

No. It shows what Grubhub paid you, by payment date rather than delivery date. It arrives from February in the Grubhub for Drivers app and Driver Portal.

What mileage app does Grubhub recommend?

Grubhub's help links to QuickBooks (Intuit) as its partner for a mileage-tracking app. Any tracker that records each drive as it happens covers the same need.

Does Prop 22 per-mile pay give me a mileage record?

No. In California Grubhub pays $0.37 a mile for miles driven during active delivery time — that decides your pay, it is not a mileage log of your driving.

Do I need to track miles outside my Grubhub blocks?

The drive to your zone and home after a block have no order attached, so no platform count would see them. Record them; your tax professional can say which ones count for you.
